Galvanized buckets make great cachepots for nursery grown plants. The buckets hide the plastic nursery pot and don't leak. I'll leave this new bucket out this Winter to develop nice, aged patina.
Each Autumn I treat myself to a pot of mums. Gold- and burgundy-colored chrysanthemums, for me, evoke the look and feeling of the Season.
To age a galvanized bucket to a soft patina simply leave it outside exposed to weather for a year to create the "shabby" farm finish that will look great with your "chic" decor.
My secret to buying beautiful full mums is to NOT buy them from a nursery or garden center where I'd pay around $20.00 for a nice one like the one in the photo above. Happily, I purchased the one in the photo for only $4.99!
Instead look for seasonal mums at places like Walmart, Ace Hardware and most grocery stores. Home Depot is more costly as are Albertson's supermarkets. My mums were purchased at Super I grocery store.
In addition, the first mums available in Fall are the most pricey, as well. Wait a couple of weeks to get the best deals.
Old watering cans make nice cachepots, as well.
Buckets serve nicely indoors, too.
