The blossoms of the golden current have a spicy, clove-like scent. Their black berries make wonderful jellies and sauces. These currants substitute nicely for blueberries which won't grow here in our alkaline soil.

The pert and perky blossoms of dandelions guide me to a harvest of their tasty and nutritional leaves. I'm thinking salads, tea, and dandelion colcannan - a tasty, cheesy-buttery, mashed potato dish enfolding sauteed dandelion leaves with a few garbanzo beans to roll about upon the tongue!
