The sprightly, yellow and orange flowers of calendula have healing properties. I rub calendula oil on abrasions, minor wounds, and insect bites.
Place the flowers into a glass container and fill to the level of the flowers with olive oil. Store in a dark spot for six weeks. Strain off the flowers, pressing them gently with the back of a spoon to release any oil. Discard the flowers.
Cover the oil tightly with a lid and store it in a pantry, cupboard, or cabinet. A small amount is all that's needed.
Use as an oil, or a balm may be made by melting a bit of beeswax and coconut oil and adding to the oil. Allow the mixture to cool. Thickening will occur as it cools. Add more melted beeswax and coconut oils, and cool, until you get the consistency you want.
